ABOTSI DEAN GIMPA Ernest Kofi Abotsi, private lawyer

A former dean of GIMPA Law School and a private lawyer, Mr. Ernest Kofi Abotsi said that police officers needed more training and education to be effective and professional.

Mr. Abotsi spoke on the back of recent police brutality, the latest being the badault of the journalist of the Ghanaian Times.

This provoked outrage from the public, with many Ghanaians strongly criticizing the police personnel involved, describing their actions as unprofessional.

Mr. Abotsi believes that the lack of training and education explains the unprofessional behavior of some police officers.

"Many police officers were not trained to arrest, I used to teach police and, surprisingly, many of them did not. 39; have not read the criminal act. "

"A staff is training at the training school, he is coming out and 5-7 years old, all that he's learned is gone, I think they need enough training and recycling, "he told NewsFile on Joy FM.

Police have since arrested three of its agents who badaulted Ghanaian Times journalists in Accra.

Another incident last week saw two civilians attack a police officer, eyewitnesses said. Even if their behavior was to be condemned, the police officer acted unprofessionally.
