Dr. Roger Oppong Koranteng
Dr. Roger Oppong Koranteng, Head of Governance and Peace Branch for the Commonwealth Public Sector, won the prestigious International Cheikh Tamim Bin Hamad Al Thani Award for Anti-Corruption Excellence in the category of the highest quality of life. ;innovation.
The award, created in November 2015, is divided into four categories: academic research and education, creativity and youth engagement, innovation and life-long success, and rewards individuals who contribute to the global campaign against corruption.
The winners are rewarded each year on the occasion of the International Day Against Corruption on 7 December.
Dr. Koranteng, a Ghanaian anti-corruption expert and advisor to management, was honored for his work on fighting corruption in and around Commonwealth countries.
He received the prestigious world prize of Emir of Qatar, Sheikh Tamim Hamad Al-Thani. Also present at the ceremony held in the Malaysian capital, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysian Prime Minister, Tun Dr. Mahathir Mohamad, and the representative of the Secretary-General of the United Nations and Executive Director of the Office of the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC), MM. Yury Fedotov.
The reward
The prize is in the form of a raised gold hand, in addition to a certificate in recognition of his fight against corruption.
Dr. Koranteng has been working on governance and corruption issues for more than a decade in his role as adviser and head of public sector governance in the Commonwealth.
His work
During this period, Mr. Koranteng set up dynamic networks of anti-corruption agencies in African, Caribbean and Commonwealth countries, which foster collaboration and cooperation. interagency learning through sharing of experiences and best practices.
Addressing the Daily Graphic for its price, he said it was to recognize his innovative methods of fighting corruption around the world, especially in Commonwealth countries.
As head of the Commonwealth Public Sector Governance and Peace Branch, he had developed a three-pronged strategy to fight corruption in Commonwealth countries.
This, he said, included the formation of an badociation of heads of anti-corruption agencies to share their innovative methods of fighting corruption, which was then peer reviewed and the best idea retained by the members.
The members then traveled to a selected country to underestimate the efficiency of the system.
He said the badociation was vibrant in the countries of Commonwealth Africa and the Caribbean and was producing tangible results.
He said the results were fantastic given that the 10 least corrupt countries in Africa were Commonwealth members.
