In a tweet from "The Ollai", it is written that an amount of 197 million GHc was allocated to the distillation of the gutters. Dear Ghanaians, we are always complaining about the difficult economy we are facing without wanting to improve it. Imagine this quantity that must be used for work on our gutters. Could this amount not be used for other development projects that will improve the quality of our lives? However, this huge amount is consumed by already built gutters.
Suggestion! The government needs to use about 35 million GHc to educate the public. Environmental education needs to be intensified. Thus, when people are educated and aware of the importance of protecting the environment, they will not be left behind. Educate the public about the need to keep the environment clean is halfway through the problem resolution. Another, those involved must be prosecuted. The law must work. So, those who are involved in the act of litter should be put behind bars. In addition to being put behind bars, they must pay a fine.
This is a complete waste of resources. But we must not blame the president and the leaders, but ourselves. We have all lost the culture of cleanliness and are used to dirt. One would not go down one street or the other without finding rubbers left behind by humans. We embellish our streets with the rubbers we eat and drink. We are aware of the arrangements made to keep the nation clean. Bins have been provided for the emptying of our poly bags, but many others prefer to drop them on the street. That done, the same people are going to sit at home and complain about the fact that Ghana is dirty. You made the nation dirty.
An abominable attitude of many Ghanaians is the dumping of waste into the gutters. In the capital of Ghana, garbage will be found in the gutters. How do they do that? The night is the perfect time for these people to get rid of their garbage. A mother could send her daughter to empty her bin in the gutters. They usually forget or do not care whether there can be adequate drainage of water. We must note that the floods will surely take place as long as we continue with such terrible attitudes. Gutters are not intended for garbage disposal.
Another thing that many Ghanaians do in our gutters is to relieve themselves. Defecating in the gutter seems to be a bill pbaded by Parliament over the years. Many citizens feel that defecating in gutters is a practice of their rights. Defecating in the gutters is not a right! You have the biological right to defecate, but you also have a conscience that tells you how to exercise this biological drive. Imagine the perfume produced by our gutters? Many became ill because of the odor produced by our gutters and many others had attacks because of these bad smells. Where are all these bad smells? Instead that Ghanaians pour liquids in the gutters, they add all the other things like they wanted to serve the gutter with a balanced diet. We should all note that solids should not fall into the gutters. Choking the gutters! We strangle our gutters when you and I deposit solid objects. We obstruct our gutters when, in the name of blocking erosion, we direct the sand.
Lost Lives: I do not want to remind anyone of bad memories. But let's remember those who died from the floods. The great men of the nation have lost their lives because of the floods. How many others remain to die in the same state before giving up this culture? How many valuable things do we want to lose because of floods? Change.
To those who sell in the gutters! Do not remove covers used by contractors to seal gutters. In Nungua, many vendors have removed the metals that were used to seal the gutters to prevent any solid from entering. They replaced them with slaps. This attitude is bad and not Ghanaian. A Ghanaian wants to be proud of his country and will not throw waste in the street. A Ghanaian is one who does not defecate in the gutters. A Ghanaian is one who does not turn the gutters into garbage dump. A Ghanaian is someone who sees the environment because his immediate sister will take good care of her. A Ghanaian is one who will hold his nation in high esteem. Are you a Ghanaian? If you are, then change your attitude because it does not show that you are Ghanaian.
To the president: We know that you love Ghanaians. We appreciate this love. However, we wish to make a request. That you do well to ask the contractors to always cover our gutters with concrete. When that is done, there will be no more flooding. When this is done, mosquito nets will not cost more. When this is done, the environment will smell good and people will not get sick. Allow me, Mr. President, to take you to New York, where you visited recently. I would like to believe that you noticed how their gutters were covered. I would not be surprised if you answer is that you have not seen one. Please! Do the same thing here in Ghana for us. We are proud of you. Again, the various bademblies should provide bins for rubbers and solids at various locations.
To my dear citizens. We are doing well, but there is still "better" and "better" to do. Let's make the environment our own. Once I visited an institution in our country, the entrance to the complex said, "Keep the environment spotlessly clean." In fact, the environment is very clean. They asked students what was for me a big surprise and told them: if they found rubber on the floor, it would mean that a stranger had come. It was at the regional seminar of Saint-Pierre.
