The Ghana Health Service has dispelled reports circulating on social media that antigen tests carried out at Kotoka International Airport (KIA) are false.
It comes after two passengers who reportedly tested positive on arrival in the country went online to express their displeasure with their results and the need for them to self-isolate for seven days.
Women who have been identified as Mavis Boateng and Ivy Ankrah have claimed that the antigen test which is mandatory for every passenger arriving in the country to participate is false.
The duo, in the viral videos, alleged that officials at KIA centers were providing some passengers with positive Covid-19 test results just to milk them financially in the form of detention in isolation centers.
But GHS chief executive Dr Patrick Kuma-Aboagye in a statement rightly called the claims false.
He also explained that while some passengers may have a negative PCR test from the country of origin, there may be a possibility of a positive result upon arrival.
“It should be noted that a person may present a negative PCR test upon arrival and still be KIA positive because they may be incubating the virus. Also, the status of your test result specifically refers to when the test was performed, so any risky activity afterwards can change your status, ”he explained.
Dr Kuma Aboagye further assured that the Covid-19 testing facility at the airport meets international standards and is therefore genuine and genuine.
“The tests at the airport prior to implementation were subjected to rigorous quality controls and were found to be very sensitive. In addition, the FDA regularly monitors work at the airport to ensure that they are up to standard, ”he added.
