The Ghana Health Service (GHS) will begin Wednesday, November 28, 2018 to launch a nationwide vaccination campaign against yellow fever disease.
The seven-day exercise will be aimed at people aged 10 to 60 in 65 selected municipalities and districts across the country.
Dr. Emmanuel Kwadwo Tenkorang, GHS Regional Director for Ashanti, told reporters in Kumasi that pregnant women, people with egg allergy and people with reduced immunity (people living with cancer and HIV / AIDS ) were excluded from the exercise.
He said that 12 districts and municipalities in the Ashanti region would participate in the exercise.
They are Asante Mampong, Ejura Sekyedumasi, Ahafo-Ano North, Asante Akim Central, Asante Akim North, Atwima Kwanwoma, Atwima Nwabiagya, Bosomtwi and Bosome Freho.
The others are the districts of Sekyere Central, Sekyere East and Sekyere South.
Dr. Tenkorang said the districts had been selected on the basis of a risk badessment carried out in the country, adding that about 800,000 people should be immunized in the beneficiary districts of the region. Ashanti.
He added that the exercise should take place in all health facilities and at selected locations in these areas.
The Regional Director of Health warned all people who are not eligible because of their age, not to be vaccinated to prevent any adverse effects.
