GIJ asks students to defer classes to pay late fees

The management of the Ghana Institute of Journalism insists that all students who have not paid their tuition fees by the school’s registration deadline must postpone their classes.

This follows a management directive held on Monday, March 22, 2021.

According to a press release published by the institute on Tuesday, March 23, 2021, “all students concerned must take note of this directive and act accordingly”.

Mr Daniel Machator, head of public affairs at GIJ, said the decision was made following the expiration of the grace period it gave students in default to pay a certain percentage of their fees.

He said the fee payment deadline has been extended about three times but many students have not taken the extension notices seriously.

The last grace period for paying taxes expired on February 25, 2021.

According to M. Machator, the school will start its exam on March 29, 2021 and therefore will not be able to accept new enrollment, adding that many students still have not paid their tuition fees.

But a number of affected students are appealing for mercy as many students have struggled to find money to pay their tuition fees, due to the impact of COVID-19.
