A 13-member committee set up to oversee the 60th anniversary activities of the Ghana Institute of Journalism (GIJ) created an endowment fund.
The fund is expected to generate $ 100 million to fund the creation of a modern digital media hub, including a broadcast studio and audio-visual center, as well as an electronic library.
The committee was charged with raising funds from the public, civil society organizations, non-governmental organizations, as well as from the alumni corps of the Ghana Institute and Government.
Founded in 1959 to promote excellence in communication, the GIJ has, over the years, trained and empowered students to acquire journalistic skills.
Dr. Lawrencia Agyepong, who chairs the 13-member committee, said the initiative would help the institute train students with adequate modern journalism skills.
She said, "The generous support and contributions of government, business and philanthropists will go a long way towards maintaining Ghana's commendable democratic successes. "
Other members of the committee include Patience Sowah, Mathias Dugu, Council candidate Kwasi Agyemang, Gayheart Edem Mensah, Johnnie Hughes, Martey Agbeko, Buatsi Redeemer, Mathias Tibu and Beatrice Ganyo-Nukpezah.
