Accra, July 8, GNA – Investment in Ghana
Promotion Center (GIPC) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the
Malta Enterprise, Malta's economic development agency, which is responsible for attracting
new foreign direct investment, while facilitating the growth of
operations.
The MoU empowers both parties to set up a
strategic think tank composed of officers from both agencies and in partnership
stakeholders who will develop a three (3) year strategy covering the areas of
interest.
GIPC Executive Director, Mr. Yofi
Grant, signed on behalf of GIPC, while Mr. Michael Grech, Director of Malta
Enterprise, signed on behalf of his agency.
Under the MoU, GIPC and Malta Enterprise
collaborate in the establishment of mechanisms for sharing information in
exchange information on economic and trade updates, laws and regulations,
policies, standards and industry trends, market badysis reports,
exhibitions and forums, business contacts and investment projects in Ghana and
Malta.
They will also organize business delegations
related to trade and / or investment in the country of one of the parties, as well as
support or badist visiting business delegations organized by the other party.
Both parties agreed to co-organize different
events, including economic and trade policy dialogues between governments
agencies and business delegations in both countries, among others.
The signature of the MoU comes after the
recent state visit to Malta on March 26, 2019 of President Nana Addo Dankwa
Akufo-Addo, where he had bilateral talks with his Maltese counterpart at the

The Maltese President was one of the first
foreign leaders make an official visit to Ghana under the current government

During his visit, President Akufo-Addo urged
Maltese companies to benefit from new momentum in Ghana and Malta

business opportunities and investment in Ghana.
The delegation included the coordinator of
Business Development of Malta Enterprise, Mr. Cain Grech; The chief executive
Anton Buttigieg, Trade Manager, Malta; the ambbadador of Malta in Africa
Union, Mr. Ronald Micallef; Director, Scientific and Regulatory Operations
of
Malta's Medicines Authority, Mr Annalise
Attard and Transport Malta's Chief of Transport Operations, Mark Caruana
Arena. The delegation was led by the High Commissioner of Malta to Ghana, Mr.
Jean Claude Galea Mallia.
The visiting delegation met with various
government ministries, agencies and departments, as well as the Ghanaian private sector
private sector to explore opportunities for cooperation in the areas of trade and investment.
Highlighting some of the reasons for
Mr. Mallia said that relations between Ghana and Malta had transformed
amicable with the signing of bilateral treaties including double taxation
Agreement (DTA) to improve trade and investment between the two countries.
He said that the Maltese government also
considered Ghana as a strategic partner in Africa, especially when
Ghana pushed to export more than to import.
He also mentioned that Malta had the intention of
collaborate with Ghana in the areas of transport, education, trade, health
among other sectors, adding "we are not here for exploratory reasons, we are
here to get things done. "
GIPC Executive Director, Mr. Yofi
Grant, welcomed the proposed projects discussed with the delegation, adding
that Ghana was open to seeking strategic partners and investors to develop its
economy and for mutual benefit.
"Our country is at the center of the
world, which gives you easy access to other African markets, including ECOWAS.
We are a politically stable country and we are very proud to be the most
in the West African subregion, "said Mr Grant.
