There is no question that the role of the media has been very essential in disseminating information, educating the public and conveying the message in the era of the COVID-l9 pandemic. To this end, the Ghana Investment and Promotion Center (GIPC) hosted a press night for media actors on Thursday, December 17, 2020, at its premises in Cantonments City, Accra, in recognition of their efforts during the year.
The engagement aimed, among other things, to consolidate the existing relations between the Center and the media and to welcome the role of the media in ensuring that the GIPC remains relevant through timely coverage of events and good dissemination of information from the Center.
GIPC CEO, Mr. Yofi Grant, took the opportunity to thank the media for their support in spreading and amplifying the success of the Center, while describing the media as “ strategic partners ” necessary to achieve some crucial objectives of the Center. GIPC.
Mr. Grant also spoke of the Center’s key role in helping revitalize the country’s economy after the COVID-19 pandemic. He said: “We intend to consolidate the gains made so far despite the pandemic, in order to further increase our FDI flow in the coming year to rejuvenate the economy”.
It should be recalled that the Center recorded in the first half of the year 785.6 million FDL, or 409% in FDI value, compared to the same period last year. The fat has been described as worthy of praise given the blow to global FDI from the COVID-l9 pandemic.
Looking ahead, the CEO indicated that some initiatives such as the COVID-l9 Business Reduction and Revitalization Program (CARES), the revision of Ghana’s investment law, the establishment of the office of Diaspora investment, as well as strengthening investor monitoring be prioritized by the GIPC with the intention of supporting the economy towards recovery. “For the foreseeable future, investment promotion agencies in most countries will mainly focus on keeping investors in the country, building their resilience and encouraging restructuring / reinvestment in order to preserve businesses and thus safeguard jobs, ”Grant said.
He also urged reporters to continue supporting the GIPC over the coming year and beyond, especially as the country seeks to rebuild a more resilient economy.
