Former Girls Aloud singer Sarah Harding opened up about how she initially rejected the pain in her body before being diagnosed with breast cancer.
Sarah, 39, revealed her breast cancer diagnosis in August, sadly adding that it had spread to other parts of her body as well.
In his new book Listen to meSarah explained how she had dismissed the pain around her breast like a cyst, before realizing she was “in denial”.
In an excerpt, Sarah explains, “At first I thought it was just a cyst. I had played my guitar a lot and thought the strap probably irritated an area around my chest.
“The problem was, the pain was getting worse. It got so bad that I couldn’t sleep in a bed anymore. I was sleeping on the couch, popping pain killers like they were Smarties. . Eventually my skin started to bruise, and now I was terrified. “
In the excerpt from the book published by The temperature, Sarah continues, explaining how she realized she was “in denial”.
“I had stayed with my mother during confinement, but Covid showed no sign of leaving, and it was only getting worse,” she explains. “One day I woke up realizing I had been in denial. Yes there was a lockdown, yes there was a pandemic, but it was almost like I used that as an excuse so as not to face the fact that something was seriously wrong. “
Sarah goes on to say that she thought her pain was a cyst. “Throughout the tests, of course I prayed that it wasn’t cancer. I think the fact that what I had was so painful gave me some hope that it wasn’t. I had read that cancer bumps often aren’t. painful, which is why I hoped against hope that what I had was just some cyst, ”she explains.
In the book, Sarah also shockingly reveals how she almost died of sepsis and was subsequently placed in a coma for two weeks, before undergoing chemotherapy and mastectomy.
She also tragically recounts how her doctor told her in December that next Christmas “would probably be my last”.

Sarah first announced she was diagnosed with breast cancer in August, writing on Twitter and Instagram: “There’s no easy way to say this and it actually doesn’t even feel real to write this down, but there you go.
“Earlier this year I was diagnosed with breast cancer and a few weeks ago I heard the terrible news that the cancer had spread to other parts of my body. I am currently on weekly chemotherapy and am fighting as hard as I can. can.”
