The three girls abducted in Takoradi
The chairman of the Parliament's Defense and Interior Committee defended the police treatment of the abduction of three girls in Takoradi, insisting they are doing their best.
Seth Acheampong said that they were about to help find the missing girls and reunite them with their families.
"In the end, they have to follow the lead they've had, we need to understand and appreciate the standard operating procedures of the investigations," he told Joy News' Joseph Opoku Gakpo on Thursday.
According to him, it is not fair that the police tell the public what they have in mind, which would jeopardize the investigation and alert the culprits.
"Remember that the kidnappers are on our team and we can not reject our tracks. The police are doing their best and it takes time to get to the bottom of things, "said MP Mpraeso.
Security badysts demanded the removal of the police commander of the western region, ACP Redeemer Vincent Dedzo, from their inability to locate the girls until now.
The police said they tried unsuccessfully to reveal to an alleged kidnapper where some of the teenage girls were abducted.
According to the commander, Redeemer Vincent Dedzo, the suspect, the Nigerian Samuel Wilson Udoterg, detained for weeks, has so far refused to reveal the exact location of the girls and the police can do nothing about it.
"We tried every means to talk to him. At first he took us to Kasoa [Central region suburb] and we combed through all of Kasoa, but he could not drive us where the victims are.
"He's not even ready to talk. He will tell you he does not know where the victims are, "he told Joy News.
The police are under intense pressure because of their lethargic approach to finding girls and criticized for failing to publish girls' identities early enough for the public to provide information.
But Mr. Acheampong said his briefing indicated that the police were getting closer to the perpetrators, but were not giving the public enough information.
"I was informed that they were working seriously in the field … I talked to senior police officers and they gave me this insurance." [regarding the progress of the case] and I trust them, he says.
He said that the committee will invite the security agencies to consider the matter when the House resumes.
