The time spent by global consumers accessing the mobile internet has increased from 80 minutes a day in 2015 to 130 minutes a day in 2019, according to the Zenith ROI agency.

However, as most people in developed markets already own a mobile device and ownership is becoming more common in emerging markets, Zenith expects an annual growth in the time that users spend on mobile devices to increase to 8% between 2018 and 2021.

At that time, mobile internet usage is expected to account for 31% of global media consumption, up from 27% this year, but slightly below the 33% guaranteed by traditional television.

This means that traditional television will remain the world's favorite media in two years, although the television audience is expected to grow from 167 minutes per day in 2019 to 165 minutes per day in 2021.

Zenith also notes that the rapid growth in mobile phone use worldwide has raised average media consumption to 479 minutes per day on average, up from 420 minutes in 2013, and that this consumption is expected to increase to 495 minutes a day from here 2021.
