Three students and a lecturer from the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) are among the best candidates to represent Ghana in the Huawei ICT 2018/2019 competition.

The team will participate in the regional competition in South Africa and, hopefully, represent the country on the world stage.

The team that was unveiled at the October Huawei National Competition includes: KNUST level 400 computer engineering students, Timothy Seffah-Duodo and Gerald Philip Bbadah, a 400 level telecom engineering student Joshua Ofori Boateng, as well as a lecturer from the College of Engineering at the school, Dr. Kwasi Opare, who is also instructor for the competition.

In a brief thank-you speech on behalf of the team, Gerald Philip Bbadah described the meticulous preparations they made for winning.

He said: "From the very early stage where we knew very little, we still had to pbad a review on routing, switching, network security and wireless LAN; you can imagine the sleepless nights we spent to succeed and qualify for the national stage. "

He also expressed the team's willingness to overcome the obstacles of regional competition and reach the global level in order to make the country proud.

"As the Bible says, you can prepare your horses for war, but it is the Lord God who gives the victory; it is in this respect that even if we can not promise anything at all, we promise to give the best of ourselves during the regional competition in South Africa and let God do the rest, "said Bbadah.

Tommy Zhou, President and CEO of Huawei Ghana, said the contest brought students from across the country and the world together with new knowledge.

"The competition helps students gain the skills and knowledge they need to be better prepared for their future," he added.

Zhou said the brand is proud to be part of the country's strategic ICT partnership.

Communications Minister Ursula Owusu-Ekuful said the government is devoting more resources to ICT development in all sectors of the economy.

She said: "We believe that through pragmatic programs and initiatives and appropriate investment in critical ICT infrastructure, Ghana is becoming a knowledge-based society."

She added that her team was implementing many digital initiatives to make Ghana the center of ICT in the West African sub-region.

Meanwhile, Chinese Ambbadador, HE Shi Ting Wang congratulated the government for the progress made in exploiting the technology.

"The national ID card, the national digital addressing and ownership system, the smart driver's license, the e-business registration system, etc., the paperless paperless transaction system has taken off successfully and has made client compensation much more practical and effective; The system of interoperability of mobile money payments has been successfully launched and the Chinese greatly appreciate this considerable progress, "he said.

Meanwhile, the ambbadador expressed optimism about the Huawei brand's ability to overcome the controversy it faces over the US ban.

HE. Wang said, "Huawei has recently been the victim of unfair treatment in some countries. I believe that Huawei will overcome all these challenges and that most countries in the world will create a fair, equitable and discriminatory environment for the normal activities of Huawei and other Chinese companies. "
