SINGAPORE, July 12 (Reuters) – Spot prices for liquefied natural gas (LNG) in Asia remained stable this week, with traders looking for signs of potential demand before winter in the middle. from an abundant supply.
Spot prices for August deliveries to LNG-AS in Northeast Asia are estimated at about $ 4.40 per million British thermal units (mmBtu), up 10 cents from last week, commercial sources said.
Prices for shipments delivered in September are estimated at about $ 4.70 per mmBtu, they added.
The weekly price in Asia rose mainly due to higher prices of European gas platforms, which jumped this week after an unexpected outage in Norway, the second largest gas supplier in Europe, and the rising price of gas. oil, they said.
Gas traders in Europe said the fundamentals were still bearish, with many stocks on the rise, much higher than the 5-year average for this time of year.
The interest of Asian buyers remained moderate, as stocks for the winter should not begin until the end of September, commercial sources said.
In Japan, coal-fired power plants capable of producing 10,437 megawatts (MW) will be put into operation in the coming weeks, according to a Reuters survey of companies.
In China, major buyers of LNG remained largely out of the spot market, commercial sources said.
On the other hand, Egypt's natural gas company EGAS's offers on the spot market were plentiful, a source said. The details of the offer were not immediately clear.
Bruney LNG sold a cargo for the month of August at around $ 4.50 per mmBtu, indicated two sources, although this can not be confirmed immediately.
Malaysia, Petronas, sold a cargo for the month of August at similar prices, a third source said. The company's one-off shipments from its Petronas FLNG floating facility (PFLNG) Satu have been stable since the start of production in late May, the source added.
Earlier in the week, Angola LNG proposed a shipment of its Soyo plant for delivery from late July to August to Singapore.
Novatek (Russia) has proposed a shipment to load in July or to deliver in August in Europe or Northeast Asia, sources said. If the cargo is delivered to Northeast Asia, it will be shipped through the Arctic seaway that has just opened for the summer, they added.
