The Ghana Medical Association (GMA) has called on Ghanaians to adhere to COVID-19 health protocols during the Easter holidays to prevent the spread of the virus.
The Association said, “The pandemic is still a major health threat and we all urge all to strictly observe all COVID-19 preventive measures, such as social distancing, use of face masks, hand washing. under current with soap and the use of alcohol-based hands. disinfectants ”.
This was in a joint statement signed by Dr Frank Ankobea, President, GMA, and Dr Justice Yankson, Secretary General, GMA, and copied to the Ghana News Agency in Accra.
The statement urged Ghanaians to avoid mass gatherings typically associated with the season “such as church conventions, picnics, beach parties and other forms of celebration usually seen in the enclave of Kwahu ”.
The Association recognized the downward trajectory of new daily COVID-19 infections, active cases and associated morbidity and mortality in the country at this time and praised the government’s efforts to immunize 20 million people from by the end of 2021, with around 600,000 having received their first dose of the vaccine.
The statement pointed out that failure to adhere to COVID-19 preventive measures has the potential to worsen the spread of the disease in communities and erode the moderate progress made so far.
“GMA wishes all Ghanaians a Happy Easter. Let us celebrate the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ with caution during this time of a global health pandemic.”
