GMA urges the public to exercise caution during heavy rains

Accra, April 14
GNA – The Ghana Meteorological Agency (GMA) has warned the public that the
the flows that currently occur in the southern half of the country could
be accompanied by strong winds.

That's why
urged the public to take the necessary precautions to stay safe.

An earlier forecast
Sunday said that rain was expected on parts of the Volta, Eastern and
Regions of Greater Accra.

The GMA urged
the public to take security measures to minimize losses during the
great rainy season.

Southern Ghana is
is currently experiencing heavy rains, which began around 17:00 (GMT).

Mr. Michael Padi,
the chief meteorologist, says that people should be especially careful when
moving during a torrential rain, drains overflowing making difficult determination

a safe shelter nearby and wait for the floods to dissipate before relocating ",
he said.

Mr. Padi stated that
the public must avoid seeking refuge under weak structures or below
trees, because the rains would usually be accompanied by high winds,

He said structures
with pointed roofs attracted lightning and were dangerous for use as a shelter.

"By experiment,
people are aware of the consequences of heavy rains on their surroundings,
resulting in floods, so they should move to safer locations during strong

Mr Padi urged drivers
be very careful when it rained because slippery roads made driving more
dangerous and flooded roads, it's hard to tell where a large gutter or
the drain was.

"The best thing to
to do when it's raining a lot is to stop and take shelter in the safest place
