GNPC Foundation Present Drilling in Upper East Communities

Bawku-Sagabo (EU) May 24, GNA – Ghana
The National Foundation for Petroleum Cooperation (GNPC) donated 10 th Thursday
drilling in the municipal districts of Bawku, Bongo, Builsa North and South in
the northeastern region.

About four communities, including Asigri,
Kutanga, Sagabo and Misiga benefited from the gift offered by the municipality of Bawku.

Builsa South and North had three
communities each having a borehole, while the Bongo District also benefited
from three of the drill holes.

The move was part of the Foundation's strategy.
the responsibility of companies to ensure that these communities have access to
reliable and efficient supply of portable drinking water.

Desmund Eduah, Executive Director of
GNPC during a brief ceremony of handing over the wells to the communities of
Sagabo said the Foundation is committed to promoting quality livelihoods among
people and indicated that the initiatives include support for education and
health.

Dr. Eduah suggested that the foundation had
already sponsored about 200 students across the country to pursue medical studies
related programs abroad.

He said that we expect that the
beneficiaries would return to the country and offer a service aimed at reducing
deficit in the doctor-patient ratio that the country has struggled with,
especially in disadvantaged communities.

He gave badurance that the Middle East
The region was not left behind in this offer, adding that the foundation
continue to promote the well-being of the population.

He explained that 100 of the drill holes were
donates to underprivileged communities across the country and says about the number,
60 of them were given to the north, north-east and north-west regions with
the northern regions received 40, while 20 were shared between the Upper States
East and West Regions.

The director stated that the Foundation would work
difficult to complement the government's efforts by providing more clbadrooms to
to improve the quality of teaching and learning in the regions.

The Regional Minister of Upper East East, Madam
Paulina Patience Abayage, in an address read for her, said the move would have
improve the water, sanitation and hygiene of beneficiary communities
adding that water was essential to the maintenance of humanity.

Ms. Abayage stated as part of efforts to
improve water supply in the region, the government raised funds
available for expansion of the Tono water treatment plant
30 communities including Navrongo, Bolgatanga, Bongo and parts of the
District of Talensi.

She said that the expansion of the Tono dam would
provide portable drinking water for the population and prevent diseases such as
malaria, cholera and typhoid, among others, indicating that drilling and
toilets as part of the government's special initiatives projects
construction in the region.

She accused the chiefs and the people of
beneficiary communities to practice a maintenance culture to prolong life
spun drilling.

Sagabo, one of the beneficiary communities
with a population of about 3,500 people should benefit from drilling,
about 745 students from different communities close to the region in college
Primary and elementary schools would no longer seek water before going to school
