GoFundMe, a popular crowdfunding platform, is the latest to denounce the anti-vaccine movement.
"Fundraising campaigns to promote misinformation about vaccines violate GoFundMe's terms of service and will be removed from the platform," the company said Friday.
GoFundMe said anti-vaccination misinformation campaigns are extremely rare.
"Currently we have removed less than ten campaigns, we are doing a thorough review and removing all campaigns currently on the platform," said the company.
The fight against the spread of misinformation about vaccines continues online, including Facebook, YouTube, Google, Pinterest, Amazon and Twitter. Last week, the American Medical Association wrote a letter to business leaders expressing concerns about antiviral messages. AMA said tech giants should do their part so that consumers can access scientifically valid information about vaccinations. The organization has also asked companies to make their plans public.
Earlier this month, Facebook described steps to demote anti-vaccination groups or pages that convey inaccurate information in news feeds or search results. Facebook also stated that it would not recommend pages or groups in research related to immunization. The social network was planning to turn to the World Health Organization and the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention to help uncover the lies.
In February, YouTube ran ads on channels featuring antivirus content. The decision was made after the withdrawal of some investors, not wanting to be badociated with the discouragement of vaccinations.
