The Golden Globes continue to revamp the deckchairs. Variety reports that the Hollywood Foreign Press Association will let non-English speaking films compete for the best picture categories in future Golden Globe shows. Animated films will also be allowed to compete, provided they meet other eligibility criteria. Sadly, not many people will see this change happen, as the 2022 telecast has been canceled by NBC.
Last year, Threatening was barred from competing for a Best Drama award because it contained too much Korean. Rather, it was sent to the Best Foreign Language Film category (which it won). The move was criticized at the time, with Daniel Dae Kim tweeting that it was “the film equivalent of being told to return to your country when that country is in fact America”.

Scarlett Johannsson and Tom Cruise have also made public statements encouraging people to disassociate themselves from the group, with Cruise even returning her awards.
