Liverpool coach Jurgen Klopp was forced to include Joe Gomez in his 18-match squad ahead of the Champions League game against FC Porto on Tuesday night.
Matt Smith, of BT Sport, reported before the 2-0 win that, following a conversation with the boss of the Reds, it appeared that the English international had to abandon his plan to participate in a friendly match behind closed doors .
Twitter: I just spoke to Jurgen Klopp. Gomez must play a game in camera today, but Moreno can not play on the bench, so Joe is covered in LB. @btsport (@ msmith850)
Gomez regularly trained late after his leg fracture last December, but he did not seem to be able to participate in the near future.
However, due to fitness problems at Alberto Moreno, it seems that Klopp has no choice but to include the former young Charlton Athletic on the antenna bench at Anfield.
Andy Robertson served a one-game suspension in the win over Porto, which means James Milner played on the left-back.
Moreno had to replace the experienced midfielder, but his aptitude seemed to leave Klopp with no choice but to call Gomez back.
The Reds did not need to introduce the young defenseman, as goals from Naby Keita and Roberto Firmino sealed a comfortable victory.
Why Gomez's return could help Liverpool title
Rotation
At the end of the season, due to Liverpool's participation in the Champions League, Jurgen Klopp will want to have a lot of players to call on.

Before his injury, Gomez had always been impressive for Liverpool, which could be crucial as the Reds try to keep their momentum.
Depth
