Buipewura Abdulai Jinapor II, supreme chief of the traditional Buipe region, warned that Gonja leaders would boycott all meetings of the House of Chiefs if the regional capital of the proposed savanna region was not located in Damongo.

He added that there would be no representation of the traditional Gonja zone at meetings convened by the national or regional chamber of chiefs if their request was ignored.

According to Buipewura, the Yagbonwura and the entire Gonjaland Kingdom have unanimously settled in Damongo as the capital of the proposed savanna region.

"Damongo as the capital of the Savannah region is not negotiable, and attempts by any individual or group of individuals to change it will be fiercely opposed," he said.

He said that since Damongo is the traditional capital of the Gonja Kingdom, it should definitely become the regional capital.

"Damongo is the place where Yagbonwura resides. This is where our suzerain's palace is and that's where we prefer the capital to be, "added Buipewura.

Mr. Buipewura congratulated President Akufo-Addo for taking steps to create the Savannah region, adding that it was the greatest policy and the greatest gift for Gonjaland.

He said that when the Minister of Regional Reorganization and Development, Dan Botwe, paid a courtesy call on the suzerain of the Yagbonwura traditional domain of the Lord of Gonja in Damongo.

Mr. Botwe revealed that his team had received the petition concerning the establishment of the capital of the proposed Savannah area.

According to him, President Akufo-Addo will give effect, on February 12, 2019, to the results of the referendum on the creation of new regions at the Jubilee House.

Currently, three cities – Walewale, Nalerigu and Gambaga – are seriously competing for the capital of the Northeast region.

Naa Bohagu Mahami Shirega, supreme chief of the Mamprugu traditional region and chairman of the House of Heads of the northern region, has formally asked the government to choose Nalerigu as its regional capital.

According to him, the demand for establishing the capital in Nalerigu began when he asked the presidency to create a new region.

"It is Mamprugu and every chef in Mamprugu has his residence in Nalerigu and so there is no suitable place in Nalerigu," he added.

He said setting up the capital of the North-East region in Nalerigu would contribute to the development of the region and create jobs for young people and quality people in the region.

Nayiri called on investors to explore the potential of the region to contribute to the development of the Northeast region and the country in general.

"We have potential for investment. limestone for cement, vast lands for agriculture and tourism. "
