Google forgot to play one of the greatest assets of Stadia

Google Stadium is like the dream of a paper player: "Wherever you are, Stadia lets you play the latest games – just take your controller and you're in the middle." That's the advertising promise . And even if I realize that Google has thought a lot about Stadia, I think the corporate giant forgets to play one of the greatest strengths of the console alternative.

Stadia missed a chance: there could have been more, Google

The main selling point of Google for Stadia can be described with one word: accessibilityGoogle's vice president Phil Harrison never tires of telling us that thanks to Stadia, we can finally satisfy our favorite pastime everywhere.

But is it really true? In addition to the low availability of mobile broadband internet in Germany, Stadia will, in my opinion, face another problem in particular. Because if you take a closer look you will notice that the platform is not as easy to cross as we sell Stadia.

Since the launch of the first Stadia Connect, we know on which platforms the Google alternative console will be launched: from November, buyers of Stadia Edition 130 euros will be able to use the browser Chrome, on their TV, their tablet or their smartphone, provided that you are proud owner of a pixel mobile phone of the current generation.

Did you miss the Stadia Connect? No problem! Here you can watch the presentation:

And it's here that it all started: instead of providing enough energy to Stadia for all the latest smartphones, Google will castrate its own streaming platform and erect artificial walls for create an exclusive walled garden in the mobile space. Granted, Google wants to strengthen its own brand Pixel, but this procedure leaves me a nasty Geschmäckle.

According to official statements, the company is already working to make Stadia available for other smartphones. However, when you can count on activation, the company stays open. Is it because Google does not really know when the application will be operational on other smartphones? Barely. Behind, in my opinion, pure calculation. But you can hardly hold back this group of billions, is not it?

Accessibility? By the way!

But not just for smartphones, Google creates barriers to the use of Stadia. Even on desktops and laptops, the company is careful not to let foreign browsers nibble its sweet nectar in streaming. Because who wants to use Stadia on the computer, must force the Chrome browser. Agree, this may sound a bit petty – after all, Chrome is not like Pixel smartphones available for free. However, many of us prefer to use Firefox, Opera or Safari. They are unlucky then. Either you dive into the cold water and install the Google browser, or you go out empty.

In this case too, I'm sure that already offering Stadia to launch on other browsers would not have been a problem for a company like Google. Oh, wait! So far, nothing has been said about whether Google even plans to make the streaming platform available on other web browsers. A thug who thinks badly.

And even those who want to play with Stadia on TV have to live with restrictions. A simple application for your smart TV will not exist at first. Instead, Google requires you to have the exclusive 4K Chromecast Ultra streaming system. If I interpret the text correctly on the website, you need the expensive 4K model, even if you have "only" a full HD TV in your living room.

A light at the end of the data tunnel

After reading this, I was really surprised to learn that Google did not impose more barriers on tablet users. After all, the company also has its own tablet with the Pixel Slate. You could have pushed that too. The party does not seem to be a best seller.

But let's get back to the subject. Because tablet users can be happy: we all have access to Google Stadia – via the Chrome browser. There will be no separate application for tablets at the beginning. We do not know if that will change in the future. At least something.

8 fascinating ideas that Google Stadia wants to implement.

What is not, can still be

Some may take my harsh criticism against Google Stadia as a hate speech, but I badure you this is not the case. I'm really excited about what Google is doing with its gaming streaming platform. I think it's a shame that the huge company Stadia wants to sell us as a barrier-free and universally accessible infrastructure, but dare not, however, offer the replacement console outside its own ecosystem.

It just does not fit in my eyes and will not change in the foreseeable future. Because during Stadia Connect, Phil Harrison also dropped the following sentence:

Our vision is that Stadia works on any screen that supports Chrome.

But wait and see. Who knows, maybe Google will change again and announce, a few months after the launch, that he is already working on the system support on other browsers and under the form of a native application on smart TVs and tablets. If you have the resources you need, it's Google.
