The Cabinet has approved a financing facility in the amount of 55 million euros for the rehabilitation of road infrastructure of 100 km in some cities of Kumasi, capital of the Ashanti region.

According to the Minister of Information, Kojo Oppong Nkrumah, there is a credit agreement between the Government of Ghana and Deutsche Bank for the auxiliary infrastructure of the roads of the center. Kumasi city.

At a press conference Sunday, Mr. Oppong Nkrumah added that there was a commercial agreement between the Ministry of Roads and Highways and a construction company, Contracta Construction. UK, for the implementation of the project.

He added: "In addition, several key activities would be undertaken as part of the priority road infrastructure projects, which include the rehabilitation and upgrading of selected roads, the establishment of traffic and pedestrian safety, including buoyage and signaling, and traffic control devices, rehabilitation of drainage facilities ".

"After consideration and approval by Parliament, the project should be completed within twenty-four months from the date of commencement of the work.

"The rehabilitation of these roads in the cities and towns already mentioned is in line with the government's recognition of the quality of road infrastructure as an essential factor for rapid socio-economic development.

"We hope that the completion of these projects will reduce and improve waiting times and travel in the metropolis of Kumasi, which will lead to poverty reduction and increased development of our beloved country".
