The Ministry of Food and Agriculture (MoFA) has banned the importation of poultry products into the country from neighboring countries where the prevalence of avian influenza has been confirmed with immediate effect.

It follows a confirmed outbreak of highly pathogenic avian influenza in the Greater Accra, Central and Volta regions.

A press release issued by the Ministry of Food and Agriculture asks the public to report any unusual deaths of domestic poultry and wild birds to the Vertinaire office and to public authorities.

The MoFA says it is working to prevent an outbreak of the disease in other parts of the country.

“The ministry would like to assure the general public that there is no reason to fear and panic as the Directorate of Veterinary Services is taking all necessary measures to contain the epidemic and the spread of the disease to other regions. from the country. The success of this appeal depends on the full cooperation of the general public.

Cases of avian influenza had already been recorded in 2007, 2015, 2016 and 2018, with a significant impact on the affected poultry farmers.
