Former deputy sports minister Joseph Yamin said the NDC government had done nothing wrong by airlifting $ 3 million from Ghana to Brazil at the 2014 World Cup to pay the costs of appearance due to Black Stars players.
Ghana have been ridiculed by international media after millions of dollars were airlifted to Brazil to pay restless players who boycotted World Cup training over unpaid appearance fees.
A commission of inquiry (Dzamefe Commission) was subsequently set up to investigate the case, after which several recommendations were made.
But speaking on Starr Chat with Nana Aba Anamoah, Joseph Yamin, who was then deputy sports minister, insists the government had no other options to deal with the issue and therefore cannot not be blamed.
“Sending money to Brazil was the only way we could get money for the players, they insisted they wouldn’t play if they didn’t see the physical money.”
“You have a day to do it, there is no bank transaction that could make them money at that time, so the only way was to have it stolen. The point is, the government does. did nothing wrong, let me set the record straight, ”Yamin said.
