Government encourages supermarkets to promote local products

– The Government, through the Food and Drugs Authority (FDA), has launched a
campaign to encourage supermarkets and foreign retail stores in the country to
promote local products, while guaranteeing high standards.

The campaign, nicknamed:
"Made in Ghana Display", saw the FDA involve large supermarkets and retailers
opportunities to allocate specific sections in their supermarkets to Made-in-Ghana products
products for easy access and better sales.

Mr. Kojo Oppong
Nkrumah, the Minister of Information, announced this during a media meeting in Accra
on Sunday.

In response to
campaign, he said, some stores have already started to dedicate shelves to
Ghanaian products following the recent launch of the "Buy Ghana Love Ghana" at
Koala Supermarket in Accra, by Ms. Delese Darko, Executive Director
Officer of the FDA.

He has then
encouraged other stores to do the same to strengthen the local clientele.

The minister said
while the FDA was encouraging the sale of local products, it was about to
speed up registration to comply with international standards and ensure ease
admission to global outlets.

Mr. Oppong Nkrumah
stated that the food industry contributes enormously to the local economy,
the FDA's efforts to bring the industry to international standards and
creating more shelves for sale was commendable.

"We urge the local
manufacturing companies and start-ups to take advantage of it and register
their products so that we can compete in the market, "he said.
