The government says it is reviewing road traffic regulations to incorporate innovations in the management of road transport services.
Ongoing reviews of traffic regulations, 2012, L.I.2180 by the Ministry of Transport, according to the government, are also intended to address some of the implementation issues facing the regulation.
Transport Minister Kwaku Ofori-Asiamah, who briefed journalists on Tuesday (February 19th) in Accra, said the initiative was aimed at cleaning up Ghana's road transport.
The minister said that the implementation and enforcement of the law aimed to reduce the number of road accidents caused mainly by the undisciplined road users, especially drivers and bikers.
In his view, it is important to address some of the implementation challenges, to incorporate innovations in the management of road transport services and to ensure smooth implementation and implementation in order to reduce the number of road accidents.
He lamented that the need to enforce these rights resulted from the fact that about 2,341 people were killed and 13,677 people were injured because of the road. accidents.
Mr. Ofori-Asiamah lamented that the predominant factors behind these accidents were "the lack of discipline of road users, especially drivers and bikers, acts of excessive speed, unjustified overruns". , pedestrian overturns and non-respect of traffic lights at biker intersections "
According to him, in the future, his ministry will work to complete the review of the regulations to ensure a smooth implementation and implementation, so as to reduce the number of road accidents.
In addition, he stated that the Ministry of Transport would complete the revision of the L.I.2180 Highway Code to ensure a smooth implementation and allow the integration of new innovations.
