Government files complaint against Joy News documentary on NMC militia

On March 7, 2019, the television channel, Joy News aired a 22-minute documentary entitled "Militia in the Heart of the Nation", partially broadcast on the radio by Joy FM, Adom FM and Asempa FM.

The documentary was prepared by Manbadeh Awuni Azure, a journalist with the group Multimedia, and tells that a "militia" [De Eye Group] was discovered and operated at Christianborg Castle in Osu in Accra, which is a "safe zone" with the complicity of the government since it belonged to the ruling political party, the New Patriotic Party (NPP).

Complaint

In the complaint to the NMC, government insists that a careful review of the content of the documentary shows that there are topics totally disconnected from "the purpose of the documentary announced".

"The substance of the story that is the subject of the complaint is, in many essential elements, completely false, a product of misrepresentation of facts, wild speculation of the producer … and even betraying a desperate attempt on the part of Multimedia … to defame "President Akufo-Addo.

In the petition dated March 13, 2019, the government stated: "We view the disputed documentary as part of the boundless slander of Manbadeh Awuni Azure, Joynews and his affiliates, which was aimed at distorting government policy and dealing with serious problems of national interest against vigilance ".
