Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, a member of Parliament's Foreign Affairs Committee, warned the government about the planned migration of Ghana Police Service officials from the CAP 30 regime to the SSNIT pension scheme is a pending disaster.
His comments come a day after the parliamentary minority called on the Akufo-Addo-led government to cancel the move.
Bright Wereko-Brobbey, Deputy Minister of Employment and Labor Relations, announced that the Cabinet had approved the approval of the unification of all pension plans under Law 766 .
The minister stated that this would ensure that all members of the security agencies, with the exception of officers and men of the armed forces, make a personal contribution to the SSNIT pension scheme.
But the minority insists that it will leave men in uniform less well off when they retire.
Speaking during the new TV3 day Thursday, the MP for Tongu (North) reiterated that this initiative is an imminent disaster.
"The most important thing for the Ghanaian police today … is to try to migrate them from CAP 30 to SSNIT," he said.
"It is a bad decision to move the police, fire, immigration and BNI officers from CAP 30 to SSNIT, leaving only members of the armed forces, a recipe for disaster, "he added.
In the meantime, some police have used social media to subtly express dissent, forcing them to pay a portion of their monthly earnings to SSNIT.
