Government must be cautious in SDP – Electricity producers

The CIPDiB has asked the government to exercise caution before making the decision to terminate the Power Distribution Services (PDS) Limited electricity contract or to revise the energy purchase agreements. to take or pay to avoid disputes that could be costly to the nation.

S addressing reporters at the inauguration of the 15-member ICPDiB council in Accra, Mr Afetorgbor said the chamber would react to details of its position on the issue "at the appropriate time".

The appeal of the CIPDiB comes as a result of the suspension of the concession agreement with PDS for what has been termed "fraudulent" by the company.

The Finance Minister also announced in Parliament last Monday that payment arrangements in the energy sector would be revised.

However, Mr. Elikplim stated that the government has not undertaken any initiative to renegotiate the agreements between the PPIs.

He said the wealth of knowledge available to council members would be used to support the government's program to provide reliable food for all citizens.

He stressed the need to build capacity and leverage appropriate technologies as essential requirements for a robust energy sector.

Rented room

Mr. Ebenezer Baiden, Director General for Regulatory and Governance Issues at the ECG, congratulated the chamber for bringing together key stakeholders in the energy sector.

He said setting up the room was timely, especially when it was urgent to strengthen collaboration to overcome the difficulties of the electricity sector.

Dr. Isaac Adjei Doku, Director of Commercial Services at the Volta River Authority (VRA), said the contribution of electricity suppliers to the electricity sector was immense and necessary for national development.

"VRA sees PPIs as collaborators rather than competitors in energy production, and we will continue to work together to meet energy challenges," said Doku.
