Joshua Akamba, National Organizer of the National Democratic Congress
National Democratic Congress (NDC) National Organizer Joshua Akamba said the government was obstructing the work of the special prosecutor and, as a result, he could no longer prosecute since his appointment.
Akamba said the government should allow Special Prosecutor Martin Amidu to function effectively. several members of the ruling party, the new patriotic party (NPP), are reportedly already in prison.
The nuclear power plant reportedly expressed concern at the apparent inertia of the Special Prosecutor's Office twelve months after its creation.
According to the NPP, the inaction that characterizes the office headed by former Attorney General and Minister of Justice Martin Amidu has exacerbated public impatience.
The director of the NPP's communications, Yaw Buaben Asamoah, reportedly complained that the situation is affecting public confidence in the government's anti-corruption stance.
Reacting to Onua FM's Yen Nsempa on Friday, the NDC's national organizer explained that "the purpose of naming [Martin Amidu] had to come after NDC.
"If he finds nothing, he should oppose something to the NDC for them to be prosecuted. But if he can not do that, he should turn around and observe the corruption within the NPP, "he explained.
Mr. Akamba also wondered how the government expected Martin Amidu to work, while he did not have the necessary tools.
"They are the ones who do not want him to work because they are corrupt. If his office were to be operational, the president himself would have been trapped, "he added.
