Vice President Mahamudu Bawumia reaffirmed the government's commitment to partner with the private sector as part of its development agenda for the country, describing the sector as "a partner in the development process and not a competitor of the government ".

Speaking at the 2019 edition of the Ishmael Yamson & Associates Business Roundtable at the Palm Beach Hotel in Accra on Wednesday, Bawumia said the partnership between the two could not be compromised or negotiated under any circumstances.

The theme of the 2019 edition of the Ishmael Yamson & Associates Business Roundtable was "The Ghana We Want".

In his keynote address, Bawumia said the government was fully aware of the kind of energy that the private sector could release to support its efforts to transform the country's economy, which is why most reforms introduced by the Akufo-Addo Government. the administration has been up to now in partnership with the sector.

"All we tried to do was with the private sector. The reform of the port, when we went paperless to the port, today, it is very easy to clear your goods at the port. It was not easy, but we appealed to the private sector. They worked with us. Surprisingly, it was a major project that cost the government zero, the private sector paid for it, "he said.

"If you look at what we did at DVLA, it's with the private sector, the pbadport office project is with the private sector, so we have to involve the private sector to bring the transformation that we want because it's 39, proves to be a more efficient sector than the public sector. "

Coping with corruption

To achieve "the Ghana we want," Mr. Bawumia stressed that a significant commitment is needed to "make corruption unattractive on a sustainable basis."
