The Greater Accra Metropolitan Area Water Supply and Sanitation Project (GAMA-SWP), launched in August 2015, provided a total of 19,917 toilets to 159,336 people targeted by a water and sanitation project. low income population.

Speaking at the press conference series in Accra, the minister said that the remaining 155 sanitation facilities in the remaining schools were 92 percent complete, while the 406 facilities were to serve a total of 163 facilities. 000 students.
The GAMA-SWP was established in partnership with the World Bank, with the main objectives of improving access to sanitation and water supply for low-income beneficiaries in GAMA and improving planning and implementation. sanitation management.
Ms. Dapaah said that another important achievement under the GAMA project was the improvement of drainage at the Mallam junction, which has significantly reduced the persistent floods that have affected the area since time immemorial. .
The project intervention included the construction of a caisson culvert in the Kaneshie-Kasoa section.
A similar intervention was also underway at Kaneshie's first light, where it is about 70 percent complete, which should reduce the incidence of flooding, the minister said.
She stated that the preparation of an integrated urban environmental sanitation master plan for GAMA was underway, which would provide strategic direction for the management of solid wastes, liquid wastes and wastewater. drainage in the short, medium and long term.
As part of this project, the design of a 750-cubic meter sludge treatment plant has been completed and construction is expected to begin shortly at the Tema West Municipal Assembly.
She also announced that in response to the huge sanitation problems, Ghana had obtained a loan from the African Development Bank (AfDB) to finance the implementation of the Sustainable Sanitation Project and to Improved livelihoods in Greater Accra (GASSLIP).
The project was part of the sector's interventions aimed at expanding and capitalizing on the success of the previous Accra Consolidation Network Improvement Project funded by the African Development Bank and the ongoing Bank-financed GAMA project. for the provision and management of climate resilient sanitation. services within GAMA.
Ms. Dapaah explained that the GASSLIP was designed to support the government's efforts in the water and sanitation sector, which aimed to "increase access to adequate, safe and clean water". The GASSLIP project is therefore aimed at ensuring the construction of a number of critical infrastructures, including a fecal sludge treatment facility, a solid waste management infrastructure to improve the collection and disposal of solid waste, and improve solid waste collection systems in underprivileged neighborhoods. .
