Government Restores Allowances for Arabic Language Instructors

The Government of Ghana, through the Ministry of Zongo Development and the Youth Employment Agency, has paid 2,803 Arab instructors throughout the country.

President Nana Akufo-Addo, while campaigning for the 2016 elections, badured Arab teachers that they would reinstate their education allowance once they won the elections on 7 December.

Addressing Muslims in Tarkwa, in the western region, as part of his campaign tour, the flag bearer of the NPP of the time, recounted how, under the presidency of John Agyekum Kufuor, monthly allowances were paid to Arab tutors.

However, these allowances, he noted, had been canceled by President John Mahama on the pretext that "there is no money".

Nana Akufo-Addo therefore badured Sarkin Zongo, Alhaji Ali Arizikiya, and Imam's municipal leader, Alhaji Mohammed Umar Cisse, that "when I am given the opportunity to serve the nation, I will reintroduce the allowances paid to the Arab tutors. ".

Ekow Vincent Assafuah, communication director of the Ministry of Education, said in an interview that the government had reinstated the allowance.

He said that 2,803 Arabic language instructors engaged throughout the country have received their stipend.

He stressed that this initiative was intended to prove the government's commitment to Zongos development and education in general.
