An Igbo leader, Prince Uwakwe Okoronkwo, denounced the alleged mistreatment of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) by the Nigerian government.
He warned the federal government headed by President Muhammadu Buhari that Kanu must not die in the custody of the State Department, as the government’s actions violate the provisions of the United Nations (UN) human rights charters. and the African Union (AU).
In a statement made available to DAILY POST on Friday, Okoronkwo asked the court to grant Nnamdi Kanu’s request for the DSS to allow his private doctors to deal with his deteriorating health.

He insisted that the scenario presented by the authorities amounted to a ruthless abuse of Kanu’s rights given that the nation’s secret police failed to transfer her to the Kuje prison which he said was the impartial establishment mandated by law for its custody.
According to him, “the Nigerian government must refrain from any gross violation of human rights, Nigeria must learn to follow widely accepted standards, as evidenced by the Rome Charters of the International Criminal Court. In the name of peace, release Mazi Nnamdi kanu unconditionally, because he has committed no crime to deserve ill-treatment and learn to open windows for negotiation and dialogue ”.
