The Minister of Energy has declared that the power cuts known as "dumsor" is a thing of the past explaining that what some parts of the country are currently experiencing is only due to intermittent shortages.
John Peter Amewu explained that some communities were aware of this situation because of technical problems such as falling trees on high voltage cables.
In turn, the Meet The Press series in Accra on Tuesday, he said, delivery of light crude oil to power plants is sometimes delayed.
According to him, such cargoes are usually carried by heavy cargoes and sometimes they delay in making the country faced with shortages of supply.
In late 2018, social media was flooded with complaints from people claiming to have suffered a series of constant power outages across the country.
According to some of the outraged complaints, government was simply hypocritical after criticizing the previous regime and promised to end the plague.
But the energy minister said dumsor is a thing of the past and the government will not give its voice to such a crucial issue.
"We did address the dumsor which we have witnessed in the past three to five weeks without power in some places.
"What's happening now is not a management problem, what you see from time to time, which we are addressing largely, relates to technical problems, to the upgrade of high voltage cables" , did he declare.
Mr. Amewu stated that when this happened, technicians sometimes had no choice but to turn off the light to allow maintenance work.
The former Minister of Lands said that "the improvement in electricity supply was important and that for this little person we have become accustomed to a constant If you have a power supply, even five minutes off, you have the right to complain. "
