From June 14 to 17, 2019, the Ghana Tourism Board in the Western Region will embark on an enforcement exercise in the Western and Northern Regions to crack down on all illegally operating tourism businesses.

In a press release issued on June 3, 2019, with a copy to the RNG, the Authority announced that all unlicensed operators who would not have regularized their operations by June 10 would be closed and sanctioned.

Mr. George Nkrumah Ansere, Regional Manager for the Greater Toronto Area, stated that the Ghana Tourism Authority was legally required, under the 2011 Tourism Act (817), to register and grant a license to all tourism businesses.

He mentioned hotels, boarding houses, serviced apartments, youth hostels, lodges; traditional food establishments (chops), bars, travel and travel agencies; cinemas, event and entertainment centers, pubs, discotheques, car rental companies, companies, among others, as GTA businesses.

Tourism companies are advised to contact the Takoradi Metropolitan Area Regional Office in order to regularize their operations in order to avoid any legal sanction.
