The government is to resurrect the defunct Ayum Timber Company in Mim in the new region of Ahafo, said Friday the president, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo.

He added that the Ministry of Commerce and Industry had finalized the terms and that the company's plywood mills section would begin commercial production by the second quarter of 2019.

Speaking to leaders and residents of Mim on a durbar as part of his three-day working visit to the Bono, Bono East and Ahafo regions, President Akufo-Addo announced that 300 people would be hired to work in the plywood section.

He spoke of political vigilance and called on the population to support his government in its attempt to dissolve such groups.

Professor Okawrobour Yaw Agyei II, supreme chief of the traditional region of Mim, has previously expressed concern at the rapid depletion of the Ayum Forest due to illegal logging.
