Deputy Finance Minister Dr John A. Kumah has assured businesses that the government will step up the country’s cybersecurity efforts to create cyberspace for businesses to thrive.
Speaking at the launch of a web and mobile app by Property Trader Limited in Accra, he said the digitization of the economy remained a priority for the government, adding that he would continue to work with stakeholders to ensure the protection of companies, in particular digitally.
“For every business created, opens an opportunity not only for employment but also for poverty reduction, thus improving the standard of living of Ghanaians and economic growth. This is all the more reason why the government will stop at nothing in its efforts to ensure an environment conducive to private sector development, ”he said.
The app dubbed: “Property TraderGh Web and Mobile App”, is a new digital platform that offers users the ability to buy and sell, trade and trade as well as rent and lease properties. in Ghana and beyond in a safe, secure and convenient way.
The deputy finance minister said the introduction of electronic services such as the digitization of postal services, passport services, birth registration as well as the biometric national identity card shows the government’s commitment to digitize all sectors of the economy.
He noted that the real estate trade industry faced many challenges, including fraudulent intermediaries defrauding unsuspecting housing seekers, which required urgent action to protect both buyers and sellers.
So he praised Property Trade Limited for developing such a platform, which he said would bring reason to the space.
He added that launching the app will boost government efforts to ensure the development of an enabling environment for the digitization of not only government activities, but the entire economy.
Property Trader Limited Managing Director Dr Richard Amponsah said the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic demonstrated how the world has become increasingly reliant on technology.
He said the web and mobile app were therefore created to give credit to the government’s digitization efforts and help create jobs.
He said the platform will generate direct and indirect jobs, including job creation for professionals such as business developers, investment agents, appraisers, administrators and rental agents.
Research by the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) and UNESCO in the 2019 report launched by the Broadband Commission for the Sustainable Development Goals indicates that “more than 50% of the world’s population is now online.
He added that by 2022, 1.2 billion new users are likely to be added.
Commending the government for the progress made in its digitization efforts, Dr Amponsah called on the government to support professional associations such as the Ghana National Chamber of Commerce and Industry, as well as small and medium enterprises to digitize their operations. in order to facilitate job creation.
He assured users of the platform of their security, specifying that appropriate security measures had been put in place to detect any fraudulent activity on the platform.
University of Ghana Vice Chancellor Prof Nana Aba Appiah Amfo urged the government to accelerate the development of a strong framework to support the digitization of the economy to bring benefits to all.
