Education Minister-designate Dr Yaw Osei Adutwum has given assurances that he will pursue a rigorous and robust education system to bridge the disparities between children in the southern and northern sectors.
Therefore, once approved as Minister of Education, he would exploit the rural telephony connectivity project pursued by the Ministry of Communications, to ensure that children all over the country have access to the Internet to promote l study of information and communication technologies.
Dr Adutwum, also a Member of Parliament for Bosomtwe, gave this assurance when he appeared before Parliament’s Appointments Committee for verification.
The minister-designate rejected the idea of closing schools again due to the spread of the coronavirus, explaining that if Covid-19 safety and prevention protocols are strictly followed, the school environment would be a safer place than the House.
He therefore pledged to ensure that all necessary personal protective equipment is provided on time to public and private schools, while suspected cases of Covid-19 would be promptly reported to mapped health facilities.
“Schools will be a safer environment than homes if we are ahead of the disease in terms of decision making. Therefore, the Ghana Education Service and the Ghana Health Service have collaborated to achieve this goal, ”added Dr Adutwum.
The minister-designate, who was a former deputy minister of education in the first term of the government led by Akufo-Addo, pledged to provide quality leadership when given the lead, to achieve the government transformation agenda in the education sector.
“I am a ‘head teacher’ and when I become a minister you will see me with a teacher marker in the classroom,” Dr Adutwum assured.
He is committed to providing the necessary support to bright but needy students from underprivileged communities to pursue their dream college courses.
Commenting on the Public University Bill, Dr Adutwum said he would continue the stakeholder consultations initiated by his predecessor and ensure that stakeholder views are respected when implementing policies. government education.
