Governments will quench the Volta this year

Government planned to desiccate the Volta this year to help free Spilled water flow from Bagre Dam in Burkina Faso.

the According to President Akufo-Addo, this will help reduce the threats that the spill of the Bagre Dam poses to life and property along the black and white Volta crossing areas.

President Akufo-Addo announced it during the presentation of the State of the Nation Address of 2019 to Parliament on Thursday, February 21, 2019.

Over the past 10 years, the shores of the black and white Volta in northern Ghana have undergone an annual flood ritual every time the Bagre Dam in Burkina Faso is destroyed.

The dam's water volume has often caused damage to towns and villages along its course.

Many people and property were lost as a result of the Bagre Dam spill.

In 2018, for example, 11 lives were lost in separate communities in northern Ghana as a result of the dam spilling, while several farms were swept away by floodwaters.
