The sector commander of the Takoradi Customs Division of the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA), Francis Talongo, explained that a person must file with the Commissioner General, no later than four months after the end of each taxation year, a tax return for that year.

"I want the public to know that completing annual tax returns and paying taxes is not a matter of choice but is both a legal and constitutional requirement."

He added that people who complete their tax returns have such benefits as: "Request a refund of tax for overpaid taxes, ask for capital allocation on the badets of the taxpayer. Company, among others. "

He said that the GRA had developed an electronic payment platform through which informal sector operators, especially informal commercial transport operators, and small self-employed persons with tax stamps would pay their quarterly taxes through mobile money, working with banks.

This initiative, he added, is part of GRA's digitization process to leverage technology to improve tax administration.

"The legal department has been tasked with prosecuting all tax-related offenders in accordance with our determination to let the public know that things are not happening as usual at GRA," he added. .

Kwabena Okyere Darko-Mensah, Western Regional Minister, advises individuals and institutions to file their tax returns in time to attract the necessary development in the country.

He noted that income mobilization in the country has not kept pace with the ever-increasing demands of citizens for development projects and better services.
