Commissioner General of the Ghana Revenue Authority, Kofi Nti
Mr. Kofi Nti, Commissioner General of the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA), warned against the prosecution of unpaid debts.
With this in mind, the Authority's Legal Department was responsible for compiling reports on all these offenders.
He added that those who also failed to file their annual tax returns would not be spared.
Mr. Nti said this in a speech read on his behalf at the joint launch of Bono Regional Good Governance and Governance Week, Bono East and Ahafo in Sunyani.
The program, organized by GRA in collaboration with the Ministry of Finance and Economic Planning, is intended to create a platform for taxpayers and GRA officials to engage in dialogue and promote voluntary compliance.
The Commissioner General reminded everyone that the payment and filing of annual income tax returns was a constitutional requirement.
People with an income who refused to do so would be committing a serious economic offense.
He added that if citizens did not pay their taxes regularly and quickly, the government would not be able to mobilize the revenues needed for development – to improve the lives of the people.
Mr. Evans Opoku-Bobie, Regional Minister for Ahafo, said that taxes remain the main source of revenue for the government and stressed that the program to move "Ghana beyond aid" would become a dream only if everyone agreed to respect their tax obligations.
He encouraged all income to pay their taxes.
