Rivers State Governor Nyesom Wike has described Grammy Award-winning Afrobeat singer Burna Boy as the pride of the state.
Wike said this when welcoming his parents Burna Boy on Saturday during a courtesy visit to Government House in Port Harcourt.
The state hosted a homecoming ceremony for Burna Boy after his album “Twice as Tall” won the World’s Best Music Album category.
The governor encouraged Burna Boy to continue to make the state proud even though he had promised to do anything to promote it.
Wike said, “There is no one from Rivers who will say that they are not happy with the kind of pride you have brought us. I am very happy and I can tell you that whatever you think we can do to promote you, we will continue to do so.
Wike noted that when news broke that Burna Boy was the winner in the Best World Music Album category with his album Twice As Tall, the whole state was thrilled and happy.
“Do not slack off in your musical endeavor because we will continue to provide you with all the support you need.
“You have made us proud and we have a duty to show you love. Wherever you are, your employees appreciate you, ”added Wike.
