Greece sees increase in ICU patients with covid-19

The head of the Greek National Vaccination Committee, Maria Theodoridou, announced on Tuesday that the online platform for booking covid vaccination appointments for those who belong to high-risk groups, will open on Friday.

The group, which affects approximately 415,000 people, includes patients with transplants, kidney failure, cystic fibrosis, cancer patients, people with chronic respiratory diseases, heart or liver disease, or patients undergoing immunosuppression.

Theodoridou also said that Greek health authorities are continuing to roll out the AstraZeneca vaccine, which is “making a decisive contribution to controlling the pandemic”.

She said there was no evidence linking the few incidents of dangerous blood clots in some recipients to the vaccine and warned people not to take blood thinners until the vaccination.

Meanwhile, more than a dozen countries, including Cyprus, have suspended use of the AstraZeneca vaccine.

Greece currently expects the delivery of 500,000 doses by AstraZeneca this month and 450,000 more in April.
