The Ghana Grid Company Limited (GRIDCo) said it is in discussions with the Ghana Electricity Company (ECG) to provide a load shedding schedule following major maintenance works planned in the area. electricity from April to July 2021.

He said GRIDCo is currently in discussions with ECG management to issue a load shedding schedule to enable people in affected areas to properly plan their lives during the period of the maintenance project.
He further explained that the maintenance work on the substation plants has become critical in order to completely solve the congestion challenge.
“There is the Pokuase substation financed by MiDA which takes part of the load of Accra.
“The load is increasing due to population growth and growing infrastructure, so you need a lot of substations that can take the load so that they don’t get congested from overuse of already existing stations.
“When you go to Kumasi, for example, the problem of congestion is still relevant, there is the problem of Bui Dam as a peak power plant which has also diminished, resulting in low power in Kumasi. . So you hear some Kumasi locals complaining that every minute the light goes out because there is peak demand and when the peak demand is high and there is congestion due to various substations, this risks causing breakdowns, ”he explained.
He added: “I can also highlight some of the plans we have to address these issues. In Kumasi, there is a Kumasi-Kintampo power transmission line project which is expected to be completed in July.
“… When you get to Accra, the Pokuase substation is supposed to take some of the loads that go through Accra to free up space on some of the substations to reduce congestion.
“There is a Kasoa bulk supply plant which is also being built by MiDA and which will also serve the same purposes.
“While I am talking to you, we have received several requests from some of the contractors who are working on the projects requesting blackouts to enable them to step up action on their work by July from the country to get their help and to that customers are comfortable.
Some of the outages are same-day outages in March, some last about four days between April and May, and some even require two-week or three-week outages.
“As an emitter, therefore, we will now have to work with ECG to find out how to minimize the impact on customers, how to balance the load distribution so that people are not necessarily too affected. We are currently discussing this with ECG so that wherever there is a need to inform affected areas of potential outages, we will do so with ECG in mind, showing us the areas and every hour or duration so that people are on track. ‘easy.
“We plan this week to involve all stakeholders and reach a good agreement on which areas to affect, when and for how long.”
