Pep Guardiola, the Manchester City coach, said the club's scouting service was actively looking for new players before next season.
The defensive midfielder is an area of concern. Fernandinho, who at 33, has already played 31 times in all competitions this season.
Asked if the club was looking for a midfielder, Guardiola replied: "Scouts are always looking for players in different positions. We never know what will happen, but today, it is not easy to find and buy the player.
"We are trying to help Fernandinho in this position."
And asked if the Brazilian could play the role of center as his career, Guardiola added: "I think he's playing in this position, he's fast, strong in the air, the vision for the pbad in and the game change are excellent.
"He's smart, he understands everything and I think he can do it.We need a guy who understands this stuff.. "
