Dalun N / R, April 23, GNA – Dr. Clifford
Abdallah Braimah, General Manager of Ghana Water Company Limited
(GWCL) expressed concern over the company's low electricity supply.

What he said, could force GWCL to cut
partnership with its food partners.

He said that the company had sought to develop
alternative sources of energy production to ensure a stable supply of electricity
at its water treatment plants across the country to ensure frequent distribution
from water to consumers.

He said because of the lack of electricity supply
PDS, GRIDCo, Northern Electricity Distribution Company (NEDCo), among others, the company had
commissioned feasibility study for the construction of hydroelectric systems
in Mampong, Weija, Barekese and the results were very positive.

Dr. Braimah made it known on Tuesday when he
visited one of the company's water treatment plants in Dalun, Kumbungu District
District of the Northern Region, as part of its visit to evaluate the activities
the company.

He stated that the reports on the feasibility study would be
soon sent to the government for approval to revive hydro
Power Systems Projects.

Dr. Braimah said that the company would bring soon
some technocrats from the Czech Republic to evaluate and install a horizontal turbine
system in Dalun to help generate electricity to support GWCL's activities in the
northern region.

He stated that the low electricity supply of the PDS had
damaged some of the company's machinery at various water treatment plants by citing
the recent damage caused by some autotransfers to Dalun, which interrupted the
water supply to consumers.

Dr. Braimah said that the water treatment plant
Dalun for more than 16 hours Monday had not been able to provide water to his
customers due to the lack of electricity that has affected the company's business
and its consumers greatly.

"NEDCo, the line of electricity supply that
is supposed to give us enough power, connected a lot of communities to this
line resulting in poor water distribution to Tamale and its
around, "he said.

Mr. Braimah also expressed his regrets
irresponsible sand retrieval activities conducted along the river beds
White Volta in Nawuni, the company's source of raw water supply for Dalun
purification station resulting in its contamination.

He said that these irresponsible activities would be
entail higher costs for water treatment, as well as higher water tariffs and
therefore called on traditional authorities and stakeholders in the
area to help stop the activities of gaining sand.

He advised consumers not always to be quick
blame the GWCL whenever there was an interruption of the water supply since most of the times
it is not the fault of the company and badured that the company would continue to do
its best to serve its customers.
