According to a new badysis, nearly half of local councils in England no longer have a smoking cessation specialist for all smokers in their area, as a result of budget cuts in public health budgets.1
The charity Action on Smoking and Health (ASH) and Cancer Research UK reports that 85 out of 151 local authorities (56%) were providing a universal specialty service in 2018-19 compared to 61% the year before. Thirteen others (9%) provided limited badistance to certain groups of smokers, such as pregnant women and people with mental disorders.
