Chelsea defender Marcos Alonso was dismissed from Wednesday night's game against Brighton.
Speaking during his pre-game press conference, as reported by Simon JohnsonMaurizio Sarri confirmed that the player had thigh problems.
Alonso started Sunday's victory against Cardiff, but has been part of the team in recent weeks.
The Spaniard is fighting with Emerson for a place in all competitions.
Alonso has not been at his best in recent months, but to his credit, he has responded well to Emerson's heightened competition. It was the Spaniard who helped Cesar Azpilcueta's goal to put Chelsea tied with Cardiff.
Emerson should now have a chance to impress in the Premier League, an opportunity that few opportunities have presented for the Italian under Sarri this season.
Sarri also added that N'Golo Kante, Eden Hazard and Callum Hudson-Odoi are all likely to play against Chris Hughton's team.
Brighton vs Chelsea: Pre-match Discussion Points
Can Hudson-Odoi step in?
Hudson-Odoi should have the opportunity to make his debut in the Premier League and he must now show why he must retain his place in the Chelsea team.
Will Hazard perform?
Despite all its brilliance, the Belgian has not been at his best for a while. It would be a shame to see his last months spent at the club ending in such a groan.
Great luck for Brighton
A win over Chelsea would give Brighton an eight-point lead over Cardiff, which would put them out of the Premier League security. This is a great opportunity for Chris Hughton's men.
Chelsea has no margin for error
Sunday's victory over Cardiff was a chance for Chelsea. They can not afford to be so poor against Brighton, given the tough competition in the top four race.
